Where do you see yourself in five years?

 Chris Wodke

You may be asked this during an interview. Hopefully you are someone who makes goals and writes them down.  If so this question is easy.  If not get prepared by writing down your professional goals for the next 6 months, 1 year and 5 years.  Your daily activities should be in line with these goals.  Studies show people that write down their goals are much more successful than those without goals.

Once you have your goals written down you can begin to talk about where you see yourself in five years.  Keep the goals talk to professional development and advancement.

Here is how an answer might sound.

I want to secure an IT position in the financial industry. I have always been interested in stocks and financial planning which is what attracted me to this position. I have strong background in database management. I am also working on an MBA with a concentration in information systems and finance. So I will have a good background in the financial aspects of this company as well as IT issues. I would like to grow within this company.

A company is looking for a stable employee who will use their talents long term to help the company grow. Be sure to demonstrate that with any answer you give to this question.
