Email Friendly Resume

Sending a resume by email can cause format problems. There are several things you can do to keep the resume presentable.

  • Remove formatting from the document.
  • Save an “email” version by choosing plain text or text only options.
  • Use WordPad, notepad or simple text to reformat.
  • Use simple font and font style.
  • Font smaller than 12 point will not scan well.
  • Do not use underline or Italics.
  • Replace bullets with dashes or *.
  • Use sans serif fonts like Courier, Aerial or Helvetica.  They are easier to pick up by the computer.
  • All headings should appear on separate lines, with blank lines before and after.
  • Apply keywords. Use key words relevant to the job. Companies scan for key works.
